A Milestone?

It is public knowledge that I am no baker. It wasn´t exactly a part of my life growing up. I learned how to cook, but save for a couple of cakes here and there that was it. I also come from a home of very picky eaters and where dessert was very rarely on our table. Of course, I married someone who likes to have dessert and I live in a world where everybody bakes for everything. So soon after getting married I was determined: I shall conquer baking! Out of embarrassment I won´t tell you how many batches of cookies have remained uneaten in our home but today I mastered my first batch of brownies made from scratch! I can´t tell you how thrilled I was when we tried them and they actually tasted good! I know, it is silly... but I am happy!

Not silly at all....in my first years of marriage, my trash was full of baking and weird supper mistakes....I really love to experiment, and they didnt all work out...my mom did not like to cook or bake so I started from scratch when I married Glenn....he he he....well anyway, I am sure you are on your way to more delicious desserts....peace to you....

You should have tried the whole wheat chocolate cake I made -- it ended up being used as a doorstop (well, almost... Actually, we threw it out the back door and found the neighbor's dog finishing it up an hour later!)

I am right there with ya, Keila. I have taken my past failures in the kitchen too heartily & it's made me very gunshy to try new things. I am SLOWLY trying new things, hoping that the wonderful cook that my mother was will somehow emerge in me. Congrats on the brownies!

WOW! You certainly caught many comments from this particular post. Ha, ha, ha, ha! (I'm OOOO- NLY KIDDING, Keila! I'm not known for preparing food on a regular basis, either! "No worries!" As long as I have directions for making something, I'm quite alright.... (I think!) Ha, ha, ha, ha! My Dad's grandmother used to be a fabulous cook!!!! My Dad told me that when he was growing up, he would watch his grandmother bake things. He would simply watch her tossing things in a bowel and he would ask her: "Grandma, what's the measurements needed for making this stuff?" She would reply, "oh, all you need is a little bit of this.... and a little bit of that...." He then would become confused because she never needed a recipe to go by. My great grandmother was born in Croatia. HER father (I believe) was buried in Yugoslavia. My Dad is NOT my so-called, "birth father", but he sure has the same facial features as me! I think it's pretty funny but, then again.... it's simply just me being in the hands of God when the adoption process had taken place. As you know already, I was born in the Ukraine (which is in Eastern Europe, of course).... so, my Dad's family heritage is quite similar to that of The Ukraine's.... (meaning, the people look very similar-- small, blue eyes, VERY pale skin Ha, ha, ha, ha!) Blonde hair.... etc. Well, got 2 go!
